Cotton is mostly grown in the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka as this region has the Black soil which is most suitable for the growth of cotton. The soil was formed due to volcanic activities millions of years ago and has now made this region one of the largest producers of cotton in the country. Black soil can retain water for a long time which makes
it best suited for cotton.
