1) Fish have scales for many reasons. Firstly, to protect the skin of the fish from attacks from predators, parasites and other injuries. Secondly, scales overlap each other in the same way that an armour would protect a person. Hence, providing a layer of protection for the fish.

2) Hand span and cubit are not used as standard units of length because their sizes vary from person to person. So, two different persons may give different measurements for the same length, which is not desirable for a standard unit.

3) Seawater is toxic to humans because your body is unable to get rid of the salt that comes from seawater. Your body normally gets rid of excess salt by having the kidneys produce urine, but it needs freshwater to dilute the salt in your body for the kidneys to work properly.
