Because of the atmospheric refraction. When starlight enters our atmosphere it is affected by winds in the atmosphere and by areas with different temperatures and densities. This causes the light from the star to twinkle when seen from the ground.

{\huge{\boxed{\underline{\mathbf{\red{♡ANSWER♡}}}}}}.

  1. The atmoshpere consists of a number of parallel layers of air of varying densities .
  2. The most dense layer is near the surface of earth, and least dense later is the top most layer.
  3. When the rays of light coming from this star pass through atmosphere of varying densities they bend towards the normal.
  4. Finally when the refracted rays of light reach the eye, the eye tracee straight line path.
  5. Due to this functions of refractive index of layers, stars appear twinkiling.
