these two compounds can be distinguished by the following test:

( 1 ) $\bold{AgNO_3\; test.}$ benzaldehyde being an aldehyde to reduces tollen's reagent to give silver mirror test but acetophenone does not give this test

( 2 ) $\bold{Iodoform\; test.}$ acetophenone being and methyl Ketone on treatment with ${I_2/NaOH(NaOI)}$ undergoes Iodoform test to give yellow PPT. of Iodoformform but benzaldehyde does not

$\bold{C_6H_5CHO + NaoI \longrightarrow\; NO\; yellow\; ppt. \;of\; CH_3 }$
