Dams in modern times have come to great opposition and sharp criticism because of the following reasons :

1) they don't get along with the nature for which they were built. For eg: most dams were constructed to prevent flood but in many cases they caused floods.

2) it leads to more accumulation of sediments at the bottom of the reservoir which leads to rockier bed-streams.

3) it affects the migration route of many fishes especially for spawning.
