Solution :-

x {}^{(5 + a) {}^{2} }  \times x {}^{(5 - a) {}^{2} }  = x {}^{40}  \\  \\

Apply ( n+m)² & ( n-m)² formula

Hence,

( 5+a) = 25 + a² + 10a

And ( 5-a) = 25 + a² - 10a

So,

x {}^{25 + a {}^{2}  +  10a }  \times x {}^{25 + a {}^{2} - 10a }  = x {}^{40}  \\  \\

We know that -

x {}^{c}  \times x {}^{d}  = x {}^{c + d}  \\  \\

So,

x {}^{25 + a {}^{2} + 10a + 25 + a {}^{2}  - 10a }  = x {}^{40}  \\  \\

 {x}^{50 + 2a {}^{2} }  = x {}^{40}

Now Apply Formula

x {}^{ m}  = x {}^{n}  \\

m = n \:  \:

Hence,

50 + 2a {}^{2}  = 40   \\

2a {}^{2}  = 40 - 50 = -10 \\

a = \sqrt{{-5}} \:  \:  \:  \:  \boxed{answer}
