Given :  A human heart beats is an average of 80 beats per minute.

To Find : How many beats is this in an hour? ( a day , a year , 100 years)

Express  answer in scientific notation.

Solution:

Heart beat in a  minute = 80  time

1 hour = 60 minutes

Heart Beat in 60 minutes = 80 * 60  = 4800 times

Very large and very small numbers can be expressed in standard form.• Standard form is also called scientific notation form

A number is written in scientific notation if it has the form c × 10ⁿ where c ≥1,  c < 10, and n is an integer.

4800  = 4.8 * 10³

4.8 * 10³ is scientific notation

Similarly in a day   ( 1 Day = 24 hrs)

= 24 *  4.8 * 10³

= 115.2 * 10³

= 1.152 * 10⁵

1 year = 365 days

= 365 * 1.152 * 10⁵

= 420.48 * 10⁵

= 4.2048 * 10⁷

in 100 Years

= 100 *  4.2048 * 10⁷

=  4.2048 * 10⁹
