The nucleus is a membrane-bound organelle that contains most of the DNA in a cell and this DNA is called the chromosomal DNA. The cell nucleus contains all of the cell's genome, except that of mitochondrial DNA. In prokaryotes, it occurs in nucleoid and plasmids.
