       1.Monascus purpureus is a species of yeast. It is also known as arg-

         Khak rice mold, corn silage mold, maize silage mold, rice kenel

         discolouration etc.,

      2. It is red in colour and used in fermentation of food. It is used to

           produce strains which is used in cholesterol lowering agent.
