Dr. Dussel’s was a worldly fellow who gave priorities to his needs first. He was a thankless fellow.

The Franks and the Van Daans gave him shelter, but he was too insatiable to share his food with everyone. They discovered jams, butter, cakes and other eatables in his cupboard.

He was the eighth resident of the Annexe and shared a room with Anne, who had to suffer the brunt of his pedantic lectures, odd personal hygiene habits and controlling tendencies.

Dr Dussel apologized when he committed a mistake, only to reiterate the same one again.

Dr Dussel was callous and boastful. He believed no one knew better than him, from peeling potatoes to rearing children. Dr Dussel was a bit slow. It took him a while to understand what part of the days were safe in the Annexe. Peter was vexed, when he fiddled with the knobs of the German radio when the Annexe residents were listening to music.

He was lax in obeying the house rules. His undiplomatic attitude further annoyed the Annexe residents. He caused an uproar over petty matters, when his cushion was taken away. He even

He was a sadistic man who enjoyed creating tensions between Anne and her mother or Mrs. Van Daan. He was insensitive and decided to insult Anne by criticizing her choice of work, declaring that knitting and mythology shouldn’t be considered as ‘’work’’.

Dr Dussel was timid. When Anne and him had an argument about the table, he only relented when Otto Frank interrupted and asked him to reconsider Anne’s request. He decided to hide behind his petty facade of being held responsible lest Anne performed dismally in her examination.

Otto Frank saw through his masquerade and told him that his petty nature had been a source of annoyance to everybody.

Heya...

His real name is Fritz Pfeffer, but Anne calls him Mr. Dussel in the diary. Anne finds Mr. Dussel particularly difficult to deal with because he shares a room with her, and she suffers the brunt of his odd personal hygiene habits, pedantic lectures, and controlling tendencies.Mr. Düssel, the elderly dentist who joined the group in hiding in November 1942, had formerly lived in Berlin and was married to a Catholic woman. He and his wife emigrated to Holland after the anti-Semitic riots of November 1938 which took place throughout Germany.

When Mr. Düssel went into hiding, his wife was informed that he had managed to get out of the country, so she never knew that her husband was in Amsterdam, near her, until the group was discovered by the Nazis. The information was conveyed to her then by a member of the Dutch group of "protectors."

Life in the confined quarters of the "Secret Annexe" had made Mr. Düssel rather difficult, and Anne describes him with great severity in her diary. If life in hiding was uncomfortable and annoying, it was much more so if one had to share one small room with a somewhat pedantic, older man. The experience obviously was not a pleasant one for either Anne or Mr. Düssel.

Mr. Düssel went with the other members of the group first to Westerbork and then to Auschwitz. He was later separated from the other men in the group and was sent back to Germany. He died at the Neuengamme camp.
