Character sketch of Nicola:
Nicola is of 13 years. His native is Verona in Italy. He does some small kinds of work to earn some money to make both ends meet. Though, he's 13 years e works hard. He's really a very good matured boy. He has a younger brother named Jacopo, who's of 12 years. In this story, his sister is gets affected by TB, so he works day in and out to pay for his sister's treatment. His hard work, love and affection towards his sister is really adorable.
 He was a devoted boy who really worked hard and he never begged others for help and even refused the help once when offered during that situation too. That really makes him a gentleman of Verona. Actually the two gentlemen of Verona refers to him and his brother.

Character sketch of Jacopo:

Jacopo is the younger brother in 'Two Gentlemen of Verona' who along with his elder brother Nicola fight all the odds their family faces after the war ended in Verona.They both assume the responsibility of guardian of their sister Lucia who is patient of tuberculosis of spine and work hard to earn for the expenses of her treatment in a good hospital.They both sell strawberries, shine shoes, sell newspapers and conduct tourists in the town to earn money at the time after war when jobs were scare. Jacopo is a little childish and he sleeps leaning on Nicola's shoulder while he sat in the middle of night wanting for the last bus from Padua so that they could sell newspapers to the passengers. When he asks the narrator for a lift to drive them upto the village thirty kilometers away where their sister is admitted, his brother is vexed. Nevertheless, he doesn't express it. Jacopo joins hands in everything that Nicola does and remains with him sharing tasks. At their young age they behave with such maturity which is far beyond their age.

The two boys in the story 'two gentlemen of Verona' , Nicola and jacopo are the two 'gentlemen' of Verona. Nicola aged 13 year is elder brother of jacobo aged 12. Both of them are extremely sincere, devoted and self sacrificing. They are ready to do anything to save their sister Lucia who is afflicted with tuberculosis of spine. They live hard life and do all sorts of jobs. They Shine shoes, sell fruits , Hawk newspapers, conduct tourist and run errands. Yet they seem to be contented. They are also highly self respecting. They do not want to publicize their family problem. They keep their family secret well .They are real heroes .During the war, they come to hate the Germans .They join the resistance movement for their countries freedom.
