The nuclear energy is present in the form of energy required in fission or in fusion of two unstable nuclei of an atom. When the atoms are disturbed during the process of fission/fusion they try to achieved a stable state that require them to lose a huge amount of energy.

Sanandfastermaster: Oh thanks
astitvastitva: You're welcome, sire.
