In oxide, oxygen has two extra electrons to have octet stable state. So, electronic configuration of oxide ion is: 1s2, 2s2 2p6. We know the general electronic configuration of Oxygen (O)= 1s2, 2s2, 2p4. The ioncharge of oxide ion is -2, i.e. the exygen gas gained two extra electrons.
