Velocity is defined as the rate of change of displacement. 

V = (Displacement) / (Time taken for that displacement)

It is a vector quantity. Thus, velocity gives us information on the speed and direction of the moving body. In fact speed is the magnitude of velocity.

For Example: A truck is moving at a 70 km per hour towards the North describes velocity of the truck.
