PMC is the abbreviation of POLLEN MOTHER CELL. Pollen mother cells are responsible for production of pollens.
Pollen mother cell is the cell in which the meiotic division starts. This is a diploid cell, that gives rise to four haploid germ cells. These each germ cells results in four pollen grains each. Before the formation of pollen, the cells secrete a very tough chemical around the pollen, which is called sporopollenin.
Pollen mother cell has four layers of the protection, of which tapetum is the most important.
