Luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) are calledgonadotropins because stimulate thegonads - in males, the testes, and in females, the ovaries. They are not necessary for life, but are essential for reproduction.

The function of any two gonadotropsins are -

  1. FOLLICLE-STIMULATING HORMONE (FSH)- It stimulates the growth of seminiferous tubules and spermatogenesis in men and growth of ovarian follicles and oogenesis in female.
  2. LUTEINIZING HORMONE (LH)-It stimulates the growth and function of the interstitial cells of testes in men and it stimulate the last stage of oogenesis ,ovulation,etc.
