Answer:

The derivative of a function at a given point is the slope of the tangent of that particular function at that given point. 

For example,

y = sin(x)

(dy/dx) at (x = pi/4) = 1/root(2)

So, the slope of tangent of sin(x) at (pi/4, 1/root(2)) is 1/root(2).
