we have to give the geometric representation of the equation 3x - 5 = 0
(a) on the number line.
(b) on the Cartesian plane.
solution : here equation, 3x - 5 = 0
⇒3x - 5 + 5 = 0 + 5
⇒3x = 5
⇒x = 5/3 ≈ 1.67
as we know, 1 < 1.67 < 2
so x = 1.67 must lie between 1 and 2.
so the representation of 1.67 on the number line is shown in figure.
now x = 5/3 = 1.67 is a straight line parallel to y - axis. geometric representation of x = 1.67 is shown in 2nd figure.
