we have to give the geometric representation of the equation 3x - 5 = 0

(a) on the number line.

(b) on the Cartesian plane.

solution : here equation, 3x - 5 = 0

⇒3x - 5 + 5 = 0 + 5

⇒3x = 5

⇒x = 5/3 ≈ 1.67

as we know, 1 < 1.67 < 2

so x = 1.67 must lie between 1 and 2.

so the representation of 1.67 on the number line is shown in figure.

now x = 5/3 = 1.67 is a straight line parallel to y - axis. geometric representation of x = 1.67 is shown in 2nd figure.
