Explanation:

Soil provides plants with foothold for their roots and holds the necessary nutrients for plants to grow; it filters the rainwater and regulates the discharge of excess rainwater, preventing flooding; it is capable of storing large amounts of organic carbon; it buffers against pollutants, thus protecting groundwater quality; it provides Man with some essential construction and manufacturing materials, we build our houses with bricks made from clay....

Some of the factors responsible for the formation of soil is climate, temperature, vegetation and so on. Climate is responsible because it affects the time of weathering of rocks. Temperature plays a significant role because it causes shrinking, swelling, and frost action, which allows small stones to breaks.....

Answer:

IMPORTANCE OF SOIL

Soils provide plants with essential minerals and nutrients.

Soils provide air for gaseous exchange between roots and atmosphere.

Soils protect plants from erosion and another destructive physical, biological and chemical activity.

Soils hold water (moisture) and maintain adequate aeration.

The relief features, parent material, climate, vegetation and other life-forms and time apart from human activities, are the major factors responsible for the formation of soil.

THREE FACTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR SOIL FORMATION ARE:

1. Parent Material: It is deposited by streams or derived from in-situ weathering. In this stage, soil inherits many properties like the mineral composition, the colour, the particle size and the chemical elements. For example- Black soil derived its colour from lava rock

2. Climate: It is one of the important factors in the formation of soil because it affects the rate of weathering of the parent rock.

3.Role of temperature: It also plays an important role because fluctuations in temperature causes shrinking and swelling, frost action and general weathering in soils.
