The Constitution of India is the supreme law of India.The document lays down the framework demarcating fundamental political code, structure, procedures, powers and duties of government institutions and sets out fundamental rights, directive principles and the duties of citizens. It the longest written constitution of any country on earth.B. R. Ambedkar, chairman of the drafting committee, is widely considered to be its chief architect.

SOME INFORMATION ABOUT OUR CONSTITUTION :

  • The constitution of India was handwritten and calligraphed in both English and Hindi, it is neither typeset nor printed. The original copies are kept in special helium- filled cases in the Library of the Parliament of India.
  • The constitution Assembly took almost three years to draft the Indian Constitution.
  • Our constitution has taken the feature of liberty, equality and fraternity from French constitution, concept of 5 year government from Russia , socio economic rights from Ireland and functioning of supreme court from Japan etc.  

FATHER OF THE CONSTITUTION...

  • Dr. Ambedkar is the father of the constitution of India.
  • After independence, Dr. Ambedkar was invited by the government to serve as the first law minister of India.
  • He was appointed as the chairman of the constitution drafting committee on 29th August.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE INDIAN CONSTITUTION...

  • The constitution was adopted on november 26, 1949, while it came into force on Jan 26, 1950.
