If we use a metre scale for measurement of length, it may have graduations at 1 mm division scale spacing or interval. A Vernier scale oncaliper may have a least count of 0.01 mm while a micrometer may have aleast count of 0.001 mm.

(b)   Hence , pitch p= = 1mm.

Hence, least count, L.C = = 0.01 mm= 0.001 cm.
