When borax is heated, it first swells and then forms a transparent glass like bead of sodium meta borate and boric anhydride. Aqueous solution of borax is alkaline due to formation of strong base NaOH. Hence, it turns red litmus blue. Borax reacts with sulphuric acid to form boric acid and sodium sulphate.

The reaction involved in making of Glass like material from borax is:

Na2B4O7.10H2O → Na2B4O7 → 2NaBO2 + B2O3

Borax Sodium Metaborate Boric anhydride

●At the point when borax is warmed, it first swells and afterward shapes a straightforward glass like dab of sodium meta borate and boric anhydride.

● Watery arrangement of borax is soluble because of development of solid base NaOH.

● Thus, it turns red litmus blue.

● Borax responds with sulphuric corrosive to frame boric corrosive and sodium sulfate.
