Salient features of Bryophytes are as follows:

1. These plants are generally found on land but the important point is that they need aquatic areas or water for completing their process of reproduction.

Therefore since they require both the areas of land and water, they are called as amphibians of the kingdom of plants.

2. Their body is like thalloid which means that they do not have exact roots but have root kind of structure called rhizoids, stem kind of structure called seta and leaf kind structure called fronds.

3. The vascular system for the conduction or for the transport of water and food is absent in them.

4. Their body is haploid type which means that they contain half number of chromosomes in them.

5. They have organs of reproduction. The male one is called antheridium and the female organs is knows as archegonium.

6. Some examples of Bryophytes: Funaria, Liverworts, Sphagnum.
