Propene:-

Propanol:- Prop- means that there are three carbons in this compound. -ol means that it is an alcohol which means that it has an -OH group attached. The 1 tells you that it is on the first carbon (or the 3rd in this compound but we use the smallest number possible so the 3rd carbon would be changed to the 1st).
The -ane (changed to -an- in this compound) means there are only single bonds.
