The Lanthanide Contraction is caused by a poor shielding effect ofthe 4f electrons. Gd because as atomic number increases, the atomic radius decreases. ... These electrons are do not shield good, causing a greater nuclear charge.

THE LATHANIDE CONTRACTION IS CAUSED by POOR DEFENCE AFFECT OF THE ELECTRONS THEY ARE NOT CAPAPLE OF DEFENCE SO THERE IS A BIG CHARGE
AS IT DECREASES ITS RADIUS OF THE ATOM THERE BY INCREASING THE ATOMIC number THEY ARE NOT CAPABLE OF DEFENCE SO THEY ARE NEUTRALLY CHARED
