Transport routes are called basic arteries of our economy because of the following reasons:

(i) Dense network of transport is a pre-requisite for the economic development of a region or a country.

(ii) Roads and railways are like arteries that connects areas of production with that of consumption, e.g. agricultural form is connected to agro-based industries and market.

(iii) They also help in industrial development by assemblage of raw materials and distribution of finished goods

"Transport", the word means to move things from one place to the other. This way the economy stays healthy the way how a heart would stay healthy if the arteries are well functioning. Hence one can say that the transport routes are called basic arteries of our economy.
