The villi aid in absorption by increasing the surface area of the intestine and contain specialized cells which transport different types of nutrients into the blood. They are also connected to blood cappilaries

Villi are ideal for the process of absorption of food due to the following reasons :

• as the villi are folded thus they increase the surface area of the small intestine and help in absorption in a greater amount.

• the second feature of villi is that they are made up of a single layer of cells which is why the process of absorption becomes very easy and facilitated.

• the third reason being that underneath the villi is present an extensive network of blood capillaries which helps the nutrients of the food to be directly dissolved in the blood without any long diffusion path.
