1. A map is a diagram. It has points and lines which represent things in the real world, and the spatial relationships between them, without (usually) looking anything like those things do in the real world.
2. They normally show spatial relationships that are current and are expected to remain the same for a long time (or that did remain the same for a long time).
1. A photograph is a record of (within technological limitations) what light was reaching a particular point, from a particular direction, at a point in time.
2. It is flat and does not show spatial relationships.
