There are different ways of preservation of food some of them are and their examples are as follows:
(a) Chemical preservation:
- Sodium benzoate is one of the most commonly heard and used chemicals to avoid the drinks from getting spoiled.
- Another chemical that is used in non vegetarian products to prevent them from spoiling is Sodium nitrite.
(b) Preservation by salt:
- There are number of pickles which have a good amount of salt added to them for their reservation for a long period of time.
- Vegetables like beans are also covered with salt it and then frozen to keep them fresh for a longer period of time.
(c) Preservation by sugar:
- Similar to pickles, the food item is first dried out and then covered with sugar. So that the moisture that can spoil the food would be absorbed by the sugar.
- Taking the extracts of fruits and adding sugar to them who allows them to stay fresh for a longer period of time.
(d) Preservation by oil or vinegar:
- Pickles again are an example of preservation by oil the vegetables are completely dumped inside the oil to keep them away from any kind of moisture that would be responsible for their spoilage.
- Vinegar is also added to vegetables to keep them fresh for a longer period of time as the pH balance is reduced which results in less bacterial growth which may damage the vegetables.
