Two examples of the situations where survey method can be used are:

  • To find the overall population in a particular area and to find how many literates and illiterates are there in a particular area.
  • During elections, to find that the people vote for the particular party or favour of any other party.

Limitations of survey method:

  • People will not give the correct answers as they thinking, they will answer based on researcher mind.
  • People also sometimes gives inaccurate answers because of weak memory or they may not want reveal about a particular issue.

Survey method

Explanation:

  • Survey research helps to collect data or a self-report from the participants in the form of factual information or opinions in order to collect details about participant’s attitudes, likes or dislikes, behavior, and beliefs.
  • Example 1:
  • Providing an online survey to a group of university students questioning about the new dress code laid by their university
  • Example 2
  • Performing an SMS survey among a group of people regarding a new government subsidy provision

Limitations

  1. If the survey is not well constructed and administered, it may undermine the research with erroneous data
  2. Sometimes the survey report answers provided by the participants may not reflect their true inner feeling and maybe dishonest due to social desirability bias
  3. Response rates, random sampling, nonresponsive bias may mask the survey results
  4. Time-consuming and expensive than other research
