Explanation:
The oxidising property of sulphuric acid can be explained as follows:-
- a. Non-metals. C + 2H2SO4 → CO2 + 2H2O +2SO2 S + 2H2SO4 → 2H2O +3SO2
- b. Metals. Cu + 2H2SO4 → CuSO4 + 2H2O +SO2 Zn + 2H2SO4 → ZnSO4 + 2H2O +SO2
- c. Inorganic compounds. 2HBr + H2SO4 →Br2 + 2H2O + SO2 H2S + H2SO4 → S + 2H2O + SO2
