he Bohr model of the atom was quite successful for one main reason:
It explained the emission spectra for hydrogen and hydrogen alone.
Now, this may seem very specific and hencd unsuccessful due to its ‘special case’ basis - but remember: this opened a huge world for physicists in explaining how light is emitted by electrons…
Furthermore, Bohr’s model provides nicely as an analogy for atoms, especially to those new to science. Such that it treats electrons and nucleons as a little planetary system, something more imaginable to those who have not yet developed a mind for the abstract nature of reality. After all, telling some kids about the schrodinger model and quantum mechanics probably won’t go down too well…
