The Western Chalukya Empire ruled most of the southern part of India from 10th to 12th centuries. They were a fierce warrior dynasty that fought multiple wars with the Chola dynasty.

On the cultural side, they encouraged writings in Kannada and Sanskrit. Also, they build several monuments such as Kasivisvesvara Temple at Lakkundi, Kallesvara Temple at Bagali, etc.
