Given below are the value of the atomic
radii of three elements A, B and C of the
periodic table, each having n electrons in
the outermost shell of its atom.
Elements
A B C
Atomic radii (Å) 1.31 1.52 1.94 respectively
Answer the following:
(i) Will the valencies of these elements
be the same or different?
(ii) Which element will have the highest
atomic number?

Answer:

  1. the atom will have same valency because the belong to the same group, as per the given information the atomic radii of the following atoms are increasing. According to trends of modern periodic table when we go down the group atomic size i.e, radii increases. so they have same valency.
  2. Element C have highest atomic number because down the group valency is same but configuration increases i.e, number of shells increases.

hope it will help you
