Given:   right triangle LMN.  LM=12 and tan(L)=2.3

To find : Length of MN

Solution:

LM = 12

MN  = ?

Tan (angle)  = perpendicular / Base

Tan (L )   = MN/LM

Tan (L )    = 2.3

=> 2.3  = MN/12

=> MN = 12 * 2.3

=> MN = 27.6

if Tan(L) = 2/3

then

2/3  = MN/12

=> MN = 8
