Step-by-step explanation:

a=5

b=4

x=?

by using Pythagoras theorem,we see that

(a)^

a {}^{2}    - b {}^{2}  = x {}^{2}

5 {}^{2}  - 4 {}^{2}  = x {}^{2}

25 - 16 = x {}^{2}

9 = x {}^{2}

 \sqrt{9  }  = x

 = 3

therefore x=3
