Given that root 2is irrational, prove that root2 +3upon root2 is an irrational number

let √2+3√2 =p/q
√2(1+3) =p/q
4√2=p/q
√2=p/4q
= p/4q is rational so as √2
but it is given that √2 is irrational so this contradicts our assumption
hence √2+3√2 is irrational
