Question:-

Given that ( x + 2 ) is a factor of ( 3x + 4 ) - ( 5x + a ) , find the value of a

Solution:-

f(x) = ( 3x + 4 ) - ( 5x + a )

So, f(x) is divisible by ( x + 2 )

By factor theorem

f( - 2 ) = 0

Now put the value ,

=> ( 3x + 4 ) - ( 5x + a ) = 0

=> ( 3× (-2) + 4 ) - ( 5 × (-2) + a ) = 0

=> ( - 6 + 4 ) - ( - 10 + a ) = 0

=> ( - 2 ) + 10 - a = 0

=> 8 - a = 0

=> a = 8

By the help of factor theorem we get

Answer:- a = 8
