Given : 25,32,49,21,37,43,27,45,31

To Find : twice the interquartile range

Solution:

25,32,49,21,37,43,27,45,31

Arrange Data in order

21 , 25 , 27 , 31 , 32 ,  37 , 43 , 45 , 49

Quartile :  1st Quartile   (n+1)/4  if n odd   or n/4 if n even

3rd Quartile   3(n+1)/4  if n odd   or 3n/4 if n even

n = 9 Here

1st Quartile  = (9 + 1)/4 =  2.5   Hence mean of 2nd and 3rd term

(25 + 27)/2  = 26

3rd Quartile  = 3(9 + 1)/4 =  7.5   Hence mean of 7th and 8th term

(43 +45)/2  = 44

IQR  =  3rd Quartile  -  1st Quartile

= 44 - 26

= 18

twice the interquartile range = 2 * 18  = 36

Hence  twice the interquartile range is  36
