Given: (x+1)/(y-1) = 4/5 , (x-5)/(y-5) = 1/2 Required: Find the value of x and y.

x+1/y-1 =4/5................(1)

x-5/y-5 = 1/2 ..............(2)

Now, solving equation(1)

x+1/y-1 = 4/5

5(x+1) = 4(y-1)

5x+5 = 4y-4

5x-4y = -4-5

5x-4y = -9 ..............(3)

Now solving equation(2)

x-5/y-5 =1/2

2(x-5) = 1(y-5)

2x-10 = y-5

2x-y = -5+10

2x-y =5 ...............(4)

Now solving equation (3) and (4) by elimination method

5x-4y = -9

2x-y = 5

after solving this two equations we get

x= 29/3. and y= 43/3
