During transportation, the glass wares may break if they collide with each in the event of jerks. When they are wrapped in straw, the force of jerk is transmitted to them through the pieces of straw in a longer period of time. Thus, the change in momentum of the glass wares takes place in a longer period of time. Therefore, a very small force is experienced by them in the event to jerks and hence they do not break. (2+1)

Glassware are wrapped in paper or straw before packing to avoid any breakage during transportation.
There are collision between the packed ware due to jèrk experience during transportation.
But the soft packing material slow down their rate of change of momentum.
The force of impact is reduced & items are not broken.
