Glycolysis occurs in the (b) Cytosol .

  • Glycolysis is the cyclic pathway which involves the breakdown of glucose molecule to form pyruvate molecules.
  • The breakdown of 1 molecule of glucose produce 2 molecules of pyruvate.
  • Glycolysis involves three phase:
  1. Energy Utilization Phase - In this the steps utilize 2 molecule of ATP.
  2. Splitting Phase - In this the Fructose-1,6 Bi phosphate split into Di-hydroxy acetone phosphate and glyceralaldehyde 3 Phosphate with the help of Aldophase enzyme.
  3. Energy Formation Phase - In this phase 2 molecule of ATP and 1 molecules of NADH is formed.
