Dear Student,
◆ Glycolysis -
- Glycolysis is the first step in the breakdown of glucose to extract energy for cellular metabolism.
- Glycolysis converts glucose into pyruvate in 10 steps.
- Glycolysis is an anaerobic process & takes place in cytoplasm itself.
- Glucose, fructose or other sugars are involved as reactants in this process.
- Products formed are 2 pyruvate, 2 NADH & 2 ATP.
# Three major stages of glycolysis -
(1) Investment phase -
- Glucose is converted to fructose-1,6-bisphosphate.
- Glucose is trapped inside cell and converted to unstable form.
(2) Cleavage phase -
- Fructose-1,6-bisphosphate is cleaved 2 molecules of glycerladehyde-3-phosphate.
(3) Harvesting phase -
- Glycerladehyde-3-phosphate is converted to puruvate.
- ATPs are generated.
Thanks dear. Hope this helps you..
