If you're just getting started in astronomy, the best thing to do is to first spend some time under the stars with just your eyes and get acquainted with the brighter stars and constellations.

A good astronomy app can really help you get oriented.

Beginning skywatchers will need to choose between 4 kinds of telescope: reflectors, refractors, hybrids and dobsonian.

If you want to start small and portable – or feel intimidated by the idea of lugging around a big telescope – good skywatching binoculars can help.

Are you a beginner for sky watching or star gazing. These are the first few things that you should follow to make your starting a better one for the rest.

  • Run off from these modern LED street lights as they will spoil the darkness that is must for sky watching.
  • Pull yourself to some high altitude where you can reduce the intensity of city lights. Country sides are more preferable.
  • Start with some binoculars instead of spending on telescopes.
  • Can you withstand the cold night rather than a warm one? Then you got a better sky for your stargazing schedule. As per the advises of astronomers cold nights are more preferable for sky watching.
  • Learn some basic concepts about the sky. This will help you know what the hell you are looking at. You can easily differentiate planets and stars.
  • Get some good sky map. Mobile apps will help a lot in this case. I prefer Google Sky map which is free to use and good.
  • Follow the astronomers in twitter are something else you name it. Just to known their updates.
  • Are you looking for the International Space Station? Then you might want to take a look on NASA’s website to know the ISS positions.  Because there is the real fun of sky-watching sleeps.
