Gold element do not change their appearance on exposure to air where as silver ornaments appear black after sometime why

Golds are less reactive. This will make them last longer.it wont undergo any chemical reaction easily , either oxidation or reduction or any. But silver will react with atmosphere and with sweat. This will reduce their shining appearance

Although these metals are very unreactive, that is why they are used to make jewellery. But they do react slowly with the gases present in environment. Gases like nitrogen dioxide, nitrogen trioxide, sulphur dioxide etc. reacts with silver to form silver nitrate, silver sulphide and silver oxide (oxidation takes place) which make the jewellery look black in colour.  While Gold is unreactive to moist air than silver.
