Gold is a precious metal ... but it is not the pure gold..It is alloyed with various metals like copper.

The pure gold is 24k { karat} and is extremely soft and malleable , thereby making it rare in jewellery. Gold of 20k , 18k , and 14k are usually used in making jewellery.
