actually by name moisturiser reduces dryness
cosmetic moisturisers are used to reduce dry ness in skin
in lab experiments they are used to hydrate the ingridients

humectant work by attracting moisture to the skin and keeping it there. this is basically the opposite of occlusive and emollient , which doesn't like water .
humectant penetrate the outer layer of the skin , attack water to it , and lock that moisture in . skin moisturizer basic function of it to help treat our skin when it's dry and prevent it from drying out again .
moisturizer do this by holding water in the stratum corneum , the outer layer of the skin .
