Photochemical smog is mainly formed by three ingredients: nitrogen oxides , hydrocarbons and sunlight . Nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons are byproduct s of fossil fuel burning energy plants but main source is the internal combustion engines in gasoline powered vehicles.
