There are total 5 children playing playing together in a playground are 12 years, 10 years, 9 years,13 years and 11 years.

We have to find the age of the group of children and the range of their ages.

Average age is defined as the ratio of sum of terms with respect to number of terms.

Sum of terms = (12 + 10 + 9 + 13 + 11) years

= 55

Total number of terms = 5 (12, 10, 9, 13, 11)

So,

Average age = (Sum of terms)/(Total number of terms)

Substitute their values in the above formula,

Average age = 55/5 = 11

Therefore, the average age of 5 children is 11 years.

In second part, we have to find the range of ages of 5 children.

Since, already given in question that ages of 5 children are 12 years, 10 years, 9 years,13 years and 11 years.

Age of younger child is 9 years and Age of elder child is 13 years.
