Given that:

  • Mohani has 30 m cloth and she wants to make some shirts for her son.
  • Each shirt requires 2 m 30 cm cloth.

To Find:

  • How many shirts in all can be made and how much length of cloth will be left?

Converting the size of cloth in cm:

  • 1 m = 100 cm

30 m = 100 × 30 = 3000 cm

Converting the size of each shirt in cm:

  • 1 m = 100 cm

2 m 30 cm = 100 × 2 + 30 = 230 cm

Finding the number of shirts made and the length of cloth left:

Using division algorithm.

  • 3000 = 230 × 13 + 10

Quotient = 13 and Remainder = 10

Hence,

  • 13 shirts can be made.
  • 10 cm of cloth left.

30m = 30 × 100 = 3000 cm

Shirt requires 2m 30cm cloth = 2 × 100 + 30 = 230 cm

3000 ÷ 230 = 300 ÷ 23

300 = 23 × 13 + 1

She can made 13 shirts in all and 1cm length of cloth will be left.
